Lithium-Ion Polymer ( LiPo ) packages are the successors of the well-known Lithium-Ion ( LiIon ) packages. The main advantage of LiPo batteries is undoubtedly the capacity-to-size ratio. They are very small in size while maintaining a very high current efficiency, which allows you to choose the right package for virtually every AEG replica. They have no memory effect. They can be charged very often without being discharged first. Frequent charging is beneficial for this type of battery.
Remember not to discharge the LiPo pack below 3V per cell and not to overcharge it above 4.2V per cell. Another advantage of LiPo packets is the low percentage of self-discharge. Monthly unused package loss is approximately 3-5% of energy. You should keep an eye on the package, because during very long storage, discharge below the permissible minimum value (3V per cell) and irreversible chemical reactions may lead to deterioration of the package properties, including permanent damage, and in extreme cases – ignition. An unused LiPo pack should be approximately 70% charged.
When properly used, the lifetime of LiPo packs is on average 500-700 cycles. An important aspect is the temperature at which LiPo packets can work. Unlike other batteries, LiPo cells work well in low temperatures. However, they should be charged at room temperature. In order to maintain the good condition of LiPo batteries, they should be balanced during charging using the service plug, which most LiPo packages have (a good LiPo charger has a built-in balancer).
